Hulkster in Heaven

Looks like a new trailer for The Incredible Hulk has been posted over at Apple. This comes right on the heels of the load of images we got served up earlier. It is even available in all its Hi-Def glory.

Check it here.

Twilight? Vampires? Sounds good to me.

I've been hearing alot lately about this book called Twilight being adapted for the screen. At first I was hearing it would be the "new Harry Potter" and I thought. Now that's just crazy, Harry Potter was the biggest reading sensation to hit kids over the head since Goosebumps. Anyway, according to a few news sites (Collider) Summit Entertainment is shipping out prints of a Twilight teaser trailer with Speed Racer which opens in theaters on May 9th. It will not actually be attached to prints of the film so it's only suggested theater owners run the teaser with the film. Either way, there's a very good chance you'll be seeing it in theaters or online on or around Friday, May 9th.

The film opens on December 12th and is directed by Catherine Hardwicke.

I found a brief description of the film over at /film

Twilight tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together… even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward’s nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

I have no idea how this will be, and I haven't read the book either. Although I'm tempted to pick it up. I am really interested to see this trailer, and hopefully that will be the case next weekend when Speed Racer hits the theater.

Anti-Venom?

Not really movie related, but Entertainment Weekly has gotten its hands on an image of an upcoming Spiderman villain who will be making his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man No. 568 which hits stores in August. Who knows...maybe this is movie related and maybe he will show up in the next Spiderman film?? That might be interesting.

Jackman talks about Wolverine again

Jackman recently spoke with MTV Movies about his role as Wolverine in the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine film. He had this to say,

It feels different,” Hugh Jackman told us recently about “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” which he’s currently shooting with eyes towards a May 2009 release. “But I don’t think its going be night and day.” followed by “Tonally, I would put it more in the ‘Batman Begins’ sort of realm,” he said, distancing the flick from past “X-Men” movies. “That’s sort of where we’re headed.”

Sounds great. But if this is the case, what is with all the new X-Men characters being introduced and why does it feel like it is going to be an episode of the animated cartoon? I'll hold my comments aside as I'm sure it will rock, but I do have some concerns.

Own Wall E

Disney is apparently planning on having Wall E's made that you will be able to purchase and take home with you...I know..."awwww cute". It is pretty rocking and apparently has some really great functionality as well. Here is the description of the product from IESB.net.

Ultimate WALL-E (pictured, $189.99 list) will release sometime this summer. He'll have 10 motors for lots of movement possibilities; a remote control, for programming myriad movements and behaviors; and sensors that'll allow him to respond to his environment in numerous ways, including obstacle, sound, and touch detection. The The iDance WALL-E (also coming in summer, $24.99) it's an MP3-player speaker that can move along to music.

Pretty awesome.

Jokerized Dark Knight clip

So, I posted that new leaked Dark Knight trailer earlier courtesy of the viral marketing game that took place a few days ago. Well apparently, a few of the people who got to go to the screening of the trailer were actually given a 35mm reel of the trailer. Someone finally decided to view it and lo and behold it was a Jokerized version that had been physically manipulated by The Joker himself! AWESOME! Check it out. As annoying as this viral marketing business is, it really does a nice job of hyping the film up.

Jonah Hill in Transformers 2??

Just about everyone is reporting that Jonah Hill is in talks for Transformers 2. It originally came as news from Entertainment Weekly. This, I must say, is a bit of pretty interesting news. While I am a fan of Hill's and He will provide some comedic relief to the film, something just doesn't quite feel right. Although, to be fair, this also could be more leaked garbage courtesy of Michael Bay himself. He said early on that he would be planting all sorts of false information all around the interweb and generally confusing the hell out of people about the film. Could this be true? We'll have to wait and see.

New Indiana Jones Trailer leaked

A new Indiana Jones trailer has been leaked. It comes to us courtesy of Cinematical. Although it is a bit rough, it is better than the Dark Knight one posted earlier. Have a look and hopefully we will get a high quality full version of it soon.

Corey Haim in Crank 2

My friends over at The Movie Blog reported yesterday that Corey Haim will have a role in the upcoming Crank 2. No other information is really available at the time. But I mus say this is a bit of a shock. Good for him....hopefully.

Jim Carrey in I Love You Philip Morris

/film has posted one of the early images of Jim Carrey in his upcoming film I Love You Philip Morris. The film is from the writers of Bad Santa, based on the novel by Steve McVicker which is actually based on a true life story. Carrey plays Russell, a criminal who falls in love with his cell mate, Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). After Morris’ release from prison, Russell attempts a variety of bizarre prison escapes in hopes of reuniting with the love of his life. The movie was apparently pitched as “Catch Me if You Can meets Brokeback Mountain”.

I hope that it turns out to be as funny as it sounds like it could be with Carrey and McGregor playing gay men who fall in love. I haven't read the book, so I do not know what to anticipate, but I have been eagerly awaiting Jim Carrey's return to awesomeness.

Raiders of the Lost Brick

LEGO made a press release yesterday about a new animated CGI Lego/Indiana Jones thing that will debut as part of Cartoon Network's Toonami. Here is what they had to say:

LEGO® animation lovers, grab your bomber jackets, whips and TV remotes! The newest CGI animation LEGO mini movie, LEGO Indiana Jones(TM) and the Raiders of the Lost Brick, is slated to premiere as a commercial event within the Cartoon Network Toonami(TM) programming block Saturday, May 10 at 9 p.m. The event, running over four minutes in length, will be hosted by Shia LaBeouf, star of the much-anticipated feature film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Leading up to the mini-movie premiere, Cartoon Network will promote the event through custom on-air spots and online elements at CartoonNetwork.com. Visitors to the Website will get a sneak peek of the on-air event by checking out part one of the mini movie, debuting on the site the week of April 28. The following week, part two will be posted to view, with the full-length mini movie available online following the on-air premiere. In addition, Cartoon Network.com will feature a custom gaming opportunity that features three levels of a LEGO Indiana Jones online game building in difficulty, one level per week, starting April 28.

"We look forward to enhancing the viewing and online experience at Cartoon Network with this exclusive, action-packed multi-platform promotion around this much anticipated film," said Beth Goss, executive vice president, Cartoon Network Ad Sales, Marketing and Enterprises.

"We're thrilled to be working together with Cartoon Network on a second LEGO animation exclusive, generating excitement for our mutual fans and audiences," said Michael Pratt, senior brand manager, LEGO Systems, Inc. "Following the success of our Star Wars(TM) Revenge of the Brick event, our new four-act feature movie is designed to combine the construction, fun and humor of LEGO bricks and minifigures with Indiana Jones adventures to celebrate another blockbuster LEGO line of construction sets based on an iconic movie property."

LEGO Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Brick was produced by M2 Films.

Sounds pretty awesome and I am really excited about the LEGO Indiana Jones game and the new LEGO Batman game that will be coming out soon. The LEGO Star Wars games were really great fun and had the perfect balance of humor, action, LEGO, and Star Wars. Hopefully the new ones will do the same.

New Mummy Poster

Badtaste.it has presented us with a new Mummy poster. Pretty lackluster if you ask me. I am not so excited about the new Mummy movie. I loved the first 2, but then the whole series took a turn for the toilet with The Scorpion King and I'm not sure if I'm really ready for another crapfest. Although I do like Brendan Fraiser. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I do know that there are a bunch more movies that I would rather see than this.

Mel Gibson is Back!

Variety has announced that Mel Gibson is taking the lead role in Edge of Darkness, the big-screen adaptation of the 1985 BBC miniseries.

It will be Gibson's first acting role since Signs and We Were Soldiers in 2002. He will play a straitlaced police officer whose activist daughter is killed. He takes on investigation of the case, and discovers a trail of corruption that led to his daughter's death. Sounds just up Gibson's alley. He's been a fan of the miniseries for years.

Are people ready for the return of Mel Gibson? We'll have to wait and see...last we saw of him he was up to some comments that didn't make too many people happy. I'm up for a new Mel Gibson film.

New Dark Knight Trailer

The recent viral splurge of Dark Knight has led a few lucky people to a screening of the new Dark Knight trailer last night. It made its way online in all its crappy cell phone filmed glory (Warner has forced most people to remove it from their sites already although you can probably find it if you really want). According to whysoserious.com we should be expecting to see the real version of the trailer appear Sunday. Hopefully that is true. I'll be sure to post it when it does.

[EDIT]

Found a bootleg of the trailer for the interested. It will probably be removed though so get it while you can.

New International Dark Knight poster

A new International Dark Knight poster has been posted over at omelete.com.br. It is an awesome poster and would make quite a nice wallpaper for your computer as well. It's actually one of my favorite that I have seen so far. There are individual posters of each of those characters as well solo on a one-sheet. But this one I think is far more interesting having them all together. It is probably used as a banner of some sort. Definitely rocks though.

2 More Horror Gems from Tribeca

Cinematical.com has posted to more reviews/(synopsi,synopseses,synopsees,?) of horror films at Tribeca. One titled Dying Breed, and one titled Let The Right One In. The first being a "lost in the jungle type creepy people and animal creature things attacking dark dirty gritty" film. And the second being a slightly new and interesting take on the vampire genre.

The Dying Breed website can be found here and includes photos and a trailer
The Dying Breed

Here is the Let The Right One In trailer as well:

I'm really liking Tribeca and really wish I was there right now. I'm now hoping that maybe next year I can find a way to be a part of the festival.

Hobbit getting better by the minute

Nothing really of news here other than Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis are both on board for del Toro's version of The Hobbit. Both have added it to the filmography section of their personal websites. This is the first bit of news that makes me feel even more comfortable with del Toro's plans. He seems to be keeping up so far.

The Wild Man of the Navidad

Scott Weinberg over at cinematical.com has posted a little review/synopsis of a horror film he just saw at the Tribeca Film Festival called The Wild Man of the Navidad. He describes the film as,

"Our semi-hero is a misfit named Dale Rogers, who putters around in Sublime, Texas, as a welder of some sort. Poor Dale has a very sick wife, a rather twisted best friend/roommate, and a ravenous man-beast roaming his acreage. But when Dale loses his job, he's forced to open up his land for deer hunting, despite the fact that he KNOWS there's a ravenous man-beast roaming his acreage. Toss in a few subplots about moonshine, spooky legends, and creepy perversions, and you've got a flick that would probably make for a good double feature with Sasquatch or The Legend of Boggy Creek. (If you remember either of those movies, then you'll probably dig this one.)"

The full article can be read here.

As a fan of the horror genre, and after not having many great horror films over the past couple years, this one definitely strikes my interest. I'll be keeping a close eye on this film and hopefully it will make its way to a nice theatrical release sooner or later. I think that the 70's era of gritty realistic horror films was a great time for horror and I look forward to it coming back full swing (which I think is certainly happening..although somewhat slowly eg. The Devils Rejects, Grindhouse, Hell Ride, Rob Zombies new film, Machete if it ever gets released etc, Wolf Creek etc.). I'm getting real sick of the whole "torture porn" business and hope that it, as well as anything that resembles The Ring or The Grudge slowly make their way out.

The Wild Man of the Navidad website is here where you can view a trailer.

Just to excite you a bit more

Early reports are the Iron Man is FANTASTIC. It was shown over the weekend at Tribeca Film Festival and according to Erik Davis over at cinematical.com,

"Took some time off from the Tribeca Film Fest tonight to catch an early screening of Iron Man with Mr. Weinberg. What's there to say about Iron Man? How does one put it into words so shortly after enjoying THAT kind of moviegoing experience? We have two Iron Man reviews coming up later next week, so I'll be brief with this tease: Mark my words (and I'm sure Scott W. would agree), Iron Man will change the way you look at these comic book films going forward. Ridiculously Bad Ass. And that be it for now."

Now that sounds like something I can look forward to. I can't wait.

Is del Toro right for The Hobbit?

I just posted recently the news about del Toro signing on for the film version of The Hobbit. This apparently is causing quite a ruckus in the industry however. Comments from Andrew O'Hehir over at salon.com are just a few of the comments that have been making their way around the interweb that have many people thinking he is less than ideal for the job. O'Hehir says,

First of all, hasn't anybody noticed that del Toro has repeatedly said he doesn't like Tolkien, and that he never finished reading "The Lord of the Rings"? Here's what he told me in Cannes in 2006, when I asked him about the influence of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis on his own work: "I was never into heroic fantasy. At all. I don't like little guys and dragons, hairy feet, hobbits -- I've never been into that at all. I don't like sword and sorcery, I hate all that stuff."

Let's see, he doesn't like "little guys and dragons" or hairy-footed hobbits, and "The Hobbit" would be a movie about what, exactly? Seriously, I think del Toro was speaking from the heart, and I think he's right. His aesthetic is darker, more Gothic and more grotesque than the Tolkien-via-Jackson universe; it derives more from the medieval mire of middle-European fairy tale than from the high-toned, pre-modern northern European epics Tolkien was channeling.

So apparently del Toro doesn't like Hobbits...I say "so what!". Just because someone doesn't enjoy or even fully understand the subject matter doesn't mean they cannot make a great film. Michael Bay says he knew nothing really of Transformers before the project began and he managed to do a pretty rockin' job of the material. I stick behind del Toro as the director for The Hobbit and fully believe that he will do just fine. After all, he is working pretty closely with Jackson on the film and I don't think Jackson would allow it to be too far off. I also hope that del Toro does make the film his own and distance it slightly from the Lord of the Rings. If he is just going to imitate, then why bother do it in the first place?

Cloverfield sequel news

Recently on G4's Attack of the Show. Producer J.J. Abrams gave some info about the possibilities of a Cloverfield sequel. Abrams said

“There is a couple ideas that Drew Goddard , the writer, and Matt Reeves have that are pretty fantastic. So we’re playing around with some ideas and obviously if it isn’t something that really excited us and inspires us, we won’t do it. But there are some good ideas out there.”

Abrams also confirmed for the speculating public that Cloverfield has nothing to do with the television show LOST. The full video interview is below:

Jimmy Fallon replacing Conan!!

Lots of news organizations are reporting that Jimmy Fallon is lined up to take over Conan O'Brien, "Late Night" when Conan moves to "The Tonight Show" replacing Jay Leno in 2009. This to me is pretty awesome news. Jimmy Fallon's film career has been nothing short of worthless, but I do believe that in the past recent years of SNL he was one of the better cast members. His "Best Of" DVD is actually really good and blows me away every time I watch it. I think that he has the right amount of craziness to himself that he could take Conan's place. And it's not like we lose Conan! Win-Win situation in my eyes as I'm not the biggest fan of Leno to begin with. I'm excited to follow this through and see if it all becomes true when NBC makes an official announcement which according to insiders should be coming soon.

Harry Potter The Exhibition

From comingsoon.net,

"Harry Potter: The Exhibition" will include elaborate displays of authentic costumes, props and artifacts from popular environments featured in the films such as those from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, including the Gryffindor common room and Hagrid's hut. During its run, the exhibit will also be updated to include artifacts from the final installments of the "Harry Potter" film series. The exhibition will be displayed in major cultural and entertainment venues, museums and institutions, and will be supported by a multimedia promotional effort and advance ticket sales worldwide. Tour information, updates and ticket availability will be posted at HarryPotterExhibition.com as details become available, or for more information, call 866-231-8328.

With more than $4.5 billion in worldwide box office gross sales to date, "Harry Potter" is the most successful film franchise in the world. The next installment of the Warner Bros. blockbuster film series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is scheduled to open in theaters on November 21, 2008.

"Creating this magical tour around such a legendary property is a true milestone for Becker Group, both as a company, and a source of creative entertainment-based attractions," said Glenn Tilley, president and chief executive officer of Becker Group.

"We've dedicated ourselves to delivering an exciting experience for visitors that will meet the standards set by the films based on the novels by J.K. Rowling," added Eddie Newquist, president of Becker Group's Creative Studio and Exhibits.

"We're thrilled to partner with Becker Group to produce this multi-dimensional exhibition dedicated to the iconic Harry Potter film series," said Brad Globe, president Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "Fans around the world will finally be able to see the incredible craftsmanship and detail that went into creating their favorite props and costumes."

"Harry Potter: The Exhibition" is the fourth collaboration between Warner Bros. and Becker Group.

This sounds freaking awesome. I was already excited for Hogwarts becoming a part of Universal Studios in Florida, but a traveling exhibition of Harry Potter stuff?? How awesome is that! If it comes anywhere near me, I'll definitely be checking it out.

Uwe Boll Vs. Michael Bay

Apparently Uwe Boll has had enough to Michael Bay and challenged him to a boxing match. This is not the first time Uwe Boll has challenged his critics to a boxing match. From Wikipedia,

"In June 2006, his production company issued a press release stating that Boll would challenge his five harshest critics each to a 10 round boxing match. Invitations were also open to film directors Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary. To qualify, critics had to have written two extremely negative reviews of Boll, in print or on the Web, in 2005. Footage from the fights were to be included on the DVD of his upcoming film Postal. On June 20, 2006, Rich "Lowtax" Kyanka stated on Something Awful that he had been invited by Boll to be the first contestant. Only after that did Kyanka review Alone in the Dark. The online gambling site GoldenPalace.com decided to sponsor this event, dubbing it "Raging Boll". The list of five critics to step into the ring with Boll was drawn up in late August 2006, and featured Kyanka, Rue Morgue magazine writer Chris Alexander, webmaster of Cinecutre Carlos Palencia Jimenez-Arguello, Ain't it Cool News writer Jeff Sneider and Chance Minter, amateur boxer and website critic. Boll fought and won against all five participants. The first took place on September 5, 2006 in Málaga, Spain against Carlos Palencia with the rest on September 23, 2006 at the Plaza of Nations in Vancouver.

This time the challenge is out to Michael Bay with Boll saying,

“Michael Bay responded to my note about him in a very insulting way for me. He said that he doesn’t care about me and this was very insulting because I care about him and I think that with the money he has for his movies, he sucks big time. I think it’s time to meet in the ring actually.

So it’s my message to Michael Bay, Michael, in between your pool parties in LA or your casting sessions with the strippers you should start training now. And I’m sure you look good, you look thin. I saw you at the Hollywood Film Festival, I think you’re a fit guy and you do like private karate bullshitAsia bullshit crap fighting stuff in LA where you think you’re super cool that you do that with your 500 bucks trainer everyday.

So let’s meet in the ring in September or October. Pay-per-view. Mandalay Bay. Las Vegas. Twelve rounds of boxing. Boll against Bay. And it’s also independent against the studio system and I think that this day in Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas we will clear it up who is not only the better director who is also able to fight more for that what he wants.”

I'm sorry Boll. I'll stick up for you because you are living the dream even if your movies suck. You are doing what many people are too afraid to do. HOWEVER, if this does happen, I have to say I'd be rooting for Michael Bay.

Check the video here. It's pretty hilarious.

New Dark Knight Poster

I have been made aware of a new Dark Knight poster. This poster comes to us after 2 days of another viral marketing Joker game that happened involving catching crooked cops of the Gotham City Police Department. I didn't partake in the last viral marketing game, just stood by and witnessed, but at the end of the day we were presented with a new Dark Knight poster as well as a new part of the Why So Serious website www.whysoserious.com that reveals that we will have something new happening in 4 days time. Whether or not this something new will be a new viral marketed game or a new Dark Knight trailer is yet to be determined. The new Dark Knight poster can be downloaded in full High Resolution here. The folks over at /film.com were also kind enough to turn the poster into a wallpaper for anyone who is interested.

To be quite honest, I am a little sick of the whole viral marketing gimmick that so many films are using nowadays. I would much rather that they just provide people with what they want in a timely fashion. Give us a poster, some images, a trailer every once and a while instead of making people visit millions of websites, make phone calls, download games, search through puzzles etc. just to get some new bit of information. If your film is good enough and hyped enough, it won't need the extra viral hype to blow away the box office (Transformers, Indiana Jones, Spiderman, Harry Potter I'm looking at you).

Eli Roth takes it down a notch

Eli Roth, horror director responsible mainly for films such as Cabin Fever, Hostel, and Hostel: Part II has a new film in development. The twist however is that this film will be a PG-13 rated Sci-fi flick. Reuters.com is saying that he is almost finished with a script that according to him is "influenced by the sci-fi films such as Cloverfield and Transformers". This is certainly an interesting development and it will be fun to wait and see what he has in store. Roth said,

"This will be my first big-budget, PG-13, mass-destruction movie," he said backstage at the music industry's NME Awards in Los Angeles. "I went total chaos and pandemonium." "I feel like I pushed the violence in R movies about as far as I can push it. I feel like I'm bled out. I wanna switch it up," said the 36-year-old protege of Quentin Tarantino.

"Everyone I know has been saying 'When are you gonna do a movie my kids can see?' And finally, I'm gonna make a movie that 13-year-old kids can see."

Sounds to me like he may just be in it for the bucks after Hostel: Part II failed so miserably and got terrible reviews at the box office. I respect Roth however and think he is definitely on to something. Let's just hope that something is good.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The Deathly Hallows, the last book which has been decidedly split into two separate films finally has a release date. Deathly Hallows: Part I has a release date currently scheduled as November 19th 2010 with the second part of that scheduled for May 2011. The May date will probably change however as most dates set that far in the future usually do. Half Blood Prince (my favorite of the books, so I am really excited about the film), is currently scheduled to be released November 21st of this year. If you look at those dates, what is really interesting is now knowing that there will be 2 years of no Harry Potter films between Half Blood Prince and the first part of The Deathly Hallows. While I'm sure the story and characters will survive and it won't harm the franchise...it kinda sucks not to have a Harry Potter film to look forward to in that 2 year gap.

It's Official! Hobbit will be AWESOME!

According to /film.com Guillermo del Toro has officially signed on to direct The Hobbit and its sequel which will cover the time between The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Rings. No scripts have been written yet for either film which Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will executive produce. In any case, this will easily take up the next 4 years or so of del Toro's life. His plan is to move to New Zealand to work with Jackson etc. as soon as post production wraps up on Hellboy II. I am extremely excited about this and I know that del Toro will do an awesome job on the Hobbit. He, in my opinion, is one of the best fantasy directors in existence right now. I had hopes that he would be doing the last 2 films (last book) of Harry Potter, but this is equally good news. I hope that even with Jackson partaking in the film-making process del Toro is given the chance to shine. I'm sure his brain is already bursting with ideas of sweet character costumes and set designs. I cannot wait. They are hoping for a 2011 and 2012 release dates.

Blade Behind Bars!

This just in! According to Cinematical.com Wesley Snipes has just been sentenced to 3 years in prison and up to 5 million dollars in fines for evading federal income taxes,

Snipes was given the maximum penalty under the law. From the government's sentencing recommendation: "The fact that Snipes was acquitted on two felony charges and convicted 'only' on three misdemeanor counts has been portrayed in the mainstream media as a 'victory' for Snipes. The troubling implication of such coverage for the millions of average citizens who are aware of this case is that the rich and famous Wesley Snipes has 'gotten away with it.' In the end the criminal conduct of Snipes must not be seen in such a light."

This blows hard for him. Apparently even despite the fact that Woody Harrelson and Denzel Washington sent letters to the judge on Snipes behalf, it wasn't enough to please the judge. Or maybe the judge just didn't like Blade III. In any case, I hope that this won't destroy Snipes acting career and he can emerge victorious in the end with some new films. Demolition Man rules.

Iron Man Sequel?

As the release date of Iron Man draws near, the press is getting some hints as to what may be in Iron Man's future. In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, director John Favreau hints at some things that indicate he has plans for not one, but two possible sequels to Iron Man. Favreau told Rotten Tomatoes

"he'd definitely be on board if Marvel came knocking. "I've got another two movies in my head; I'm ready to go and I know the cast feels the same way," he said. "Now it's out of the hands of us, of the filmmakers, and it's even out the hands of your readers. I know all the people who have been following this for two years are going to go and see the movie, and maybe they'll see it twice and I'm very grateful for that. If everybody comes out to see the movie and it's successful, then I'm sure Marvel's going to want to do another."

The full article can be read here, but as a warning, it does contain some things that may be considered spoilers.
I personally would be really excited for some Iron Man sequels. I love Iron Man. He isn't my favorite superhero, but he has a certain awesomeness about him that warrants some more films, especially since I think the budget on this one is providing us with some quite ridiculous footage so far. Plus, it might be nice to see some other Iron Man characters like War Machine...or maybe the Hulkbuster suit show up in the future.

The New Bond Movie is Cursed!

There have been reports of ANOTHER accident happening on the set of the new Bond movie

Quantum of Solace. This is the 3rd accident to happen on the set of the film. The second of which to happen over the past four days. According to IESB.net,

A spokesman for the town of Limone sul Garda, where crew have been filming for the past two weeks, said the Alfa Romeo crashed into a wall during a chase sequence involving a truck and Bond's Aston Martin along the Gardesana, a curvy, two-lane lakeside road with gorgeous panoramas and many tunnels.

A helicopter on standby during the filming flew the seriously injured stunt driver to Verona, where he underwent surgery, said town spokesman Marco Girardi, who also was acting as a liaison to the production company.

This comes just days after an Aston Martin being delivered to the set skidded off the road and plunged into the nearby lake where the driver was able to make it out with no injuries. Apparently the stunt driver injured in this accident is currently undergoing operations and is in critical condition. Let's hope he pulls through and this film continues with no more accidents.

Rob Zombies next something

I recently came across of new news to me. It hadn't been on my radar previous to this. As a fan of Rob Zombie's movies (mostly - House of 1000 Corpses was O.K., Devil's Rejects was one of the best horror movies of recent years, and Halloween was fresh, but not fresh enough), I am excited to announce that he has something new in the works. There isn't much word on what this project is other than it is a film being released in August of 2009 by Dimension. As far as we can tell it is titled "Tyrannosaurus Rex". Zombie recently added a new photo/banner to the myspace page for this film. It certainly is interesting and I am excited to follow what this will eventually turn out to be. My guess - Bikers, Fast Cars, Booze, Strippers, Motorcycles, Chains, Fire, Explosions. But we will have to wait and see.

Hellboy III !?!?!

Del Toro has recently spoken up about a possible Hellboy III. He said in an interview with scifi.com, "If there was ever a third one, I would really make sure that we at least sign a contract that there is no more," del Toro said in an interview at New York Comic Con last week. "No prequels and no sequels: nothing. If that happens, then there is a third one we have planned, and the seeds are planted in this film." .

It's nice to hear that he will only do a trilogy. Sometimes these film things get way out of hand and they should quit when it's time. He also said, about the possible plot,

"The idea for me is to bring back the Nazis characters, but bring them back in a way they would operate now," del Toro said. "Meaning, what public face would the Nazis have in 2009/2010? How rich would they be? How in charge could they be? It's not this group of freakies that hide in the sewers, but people that are incredibly rich." . Sounds like a great idea to me.

James Franco Shenanigans

There is this really great video that was just put up over at funnyordie.com in which James Franco teaches how to do greenscreen acting. It's pretty funny. Like I said before, I am a fan of the Apatow crew and Franco, to me, is a much better comedic actor than he is a serious actor. He hasn't really done too much in comedy, but I think he knocks it out of the park when he does. I am really anticipating Pineapple Express. And if you haven't seen Franco's writer/director debut "The Ape", do yourself a favor.

Lost Boys: The Tribe DVD Cover

This was released a few days ago and I just didn't feel like posting it at the time. It is the DVD cover for the new Lost Boys sequel. Granted this sequel is around 20 years too late...I'm still pretty excited. I loved the first one and although this one is straight to DVD, it still managed to get both Coreys (Feldman and Haim) on board for the film. Sure, it won't be as good, and it might even suck, but any chance I have to see Edgar Frog again, I'm definitely going to take.

Hancock Spot

There is a new T.V. spot out for Hancock, Will Smiths summer film about a homeless bum/superhero. It's pretty good, but lots of the same stuff we've seen already. Although, I'm pretty excited about this film. Will Smith is usually pretty fun to watch, and it is a unique take on the superhero genre. Should be fun

It's a long list with many films that sound promising as well as a few blockbusters in the out of competition segment. Speaking of Apatow...

Variety is reporting that Judd Apatow and Nick Stoller (director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall) are going to be reteaming for a new comedy called "Get Him To the Greek" described as a "very dirty take on 'Almost Famous'" and starring none other than Jonah Hill and Russell Brand who were both supporting roles in Sarah Marshall.

Jonah Hill and Russell Brand were both hilarious in Sarah Marshall and this movie sounds like it will be one more grand slam for team Apatow. It will also be fun to see Jonah possibly playing the straight and narrow guy who has to work with the out of control rockstar, as Hill has already proven that he can play the one who is out of control. As for Russell Brand, a relative newcomer to film, but not a newcomer to comedy - he will get a chance to prove he's funny once again.

Chronicles of Narnia : Prince Caspian

There is a new Prince Caspian trailer online. It certainly has a darker feel than the previous one. I have high hopes for this movie. I think that the first trailer that was released showed great potential and I really enjoyed the first film. Especially Aslan, the lion. I think it was one of the greatest CG accomplishments in cinema so far. The trailer can be seen in Full HD on myspace. Lets hope the film does well, because I have heard rumors floating around that Disney is only going to make this a trilogy and end things with Dawn Treader, the next in the series. Maybe if Prince Caspian and Dawn Treader do well enough they will reconsider. Prince Caspian hits theaters May 16th

Star in your own Judd Apatow Film!

Cracked.com has posted a really great article about what it would take to star in your own Judd Apatow film.

"Have you ever wanted to make a smash comedy hit, just like Director/Producer/”Writer” Judd Apatow? Now you can! Follow these simple steps and you’ll be on your way to crafting a wry, witty, irreverent romantic comedy chock full of heart, without ever having to generate a single fresh concept!

Difficulty: Can be tricky the first time, but once you’ve got the hang of it, you can pump them out yearly.

Time: 6 months (4 hours for scripting and casting, a weekend for shooting, and 5 months and 28 days for editing, advertising and “make ‘em wait” time).

Things You Will Need:
# A beloved failed TV show from which to pull your cast
# A thorough knowledge of basic sexual slang (for help with this, see my other manual, “From Pearl Necklaces to Donkey Punches: the Eight Comedic Sexual Maneuvers”)
# A disdain for continuity
# An old High School yearbook from which to pull ideas and characters
# A shitload of film to allow actors time to improvise (ie, “write the script”)
# An understanding of improvisational comedy that entails two guys speaking in unconnected one-liners
# Paul Rudd’s phone number
# A giant bag of weed (usually Paul Rudd can provide this)"

The rest of the article can be found here. It is really funny and deserves a read. Although many of the points are true, I can fully say that Judd Apatow comedies have really been the high standard over the past year or so that nobody has been able to touch. He and his posse seem to have the Midas Touch (not for fixing brakes, but making films turn to gold). With exception of Drillbit Taylor - that movie pretty much sucked.

Brendan Fraser confirmed for G.I. Joe

According to IESB.net, Brendan Fraser confirmed at the New York Comic Con that he will be involved with the G.I. Joe movie scheduled for 2009. See the video here

This cast is getting crazier and crazier as the days go by. I'm still a little lost as to thoughts on how this might turn out. I wasn't a HUGE G.I. Joe fan (more of a He-Man, Ninja Turtles, Transformers guy), but I had my share of Joe's and I was somewhat familiar with the cartoon's plotline. As far as I can tell this movie is adding up to be a disaster, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Uwe Boll is at it again

I'm sure you may have heard about the online petition to stop Uwe Boll from making movies. And you may have seen his response video as well. Well, it looks like Boll is at it again. This time trying to get film rights to the beloved online RPG World of Warcraft. According to strategyinformer.com he was even laughed out of the Blizzard offices, "We will not sell the movie rights, not to you... especially not to you," was apparently Paul Sams reply, to which Azeroth was pronounced saved!

"I got in contact with Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, 'We will not sell the movie rights..." Boll told MTV News.

To his own admission he goes on to to say "Because it's such a big online game success, maybe a bad movie would destroy that ongoing income, what the company has with it."
. There you have it, the master of the press is at it again. Whether or not this story is true, I don't know. But this guy rocks in my book and FYI...I didn't sign the petition.

Star Wars Re-envisioned

This is something I came across a little while ago that I thought was pretty awesome. It came to light due to the 2008 CustomCon where people present modded or completely new "homemade" action figures/series. One particular person stands out among most and his website has many of his collections available for viewing here Sillof's Workshop. One of my favorite sets is the Steampunk Star Wars where the entire cast has been re-envisioned to take on a steampunk feel and look, but there are some other good ones to check out as well. They are so awesome I can actually imagine an entire new movie being made using these characters. Check them out, it's worth it.

Weekend Excursion (of course involving movies)

Over the weekend I left Columbus to head back over to Champaign/Charleston, Illinois to visit the new grad exhibition at Eastern Illinois University, where I got my Master of Arts. While hanging out I managed to pick up a few DVD's. Not new ones by any means, just DVD's I had been meaning to pick up to add to the collection (some of them I owned on VHS back in the day and haven't replaced). I picked up the Hellboy 3 Disk Collector's Edition, Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness (all owned on VHS) and 11th Hour (the Leo DiCaprio version of An Inconvenient Truth...which only cost 5 bucks and was in a case made of recycled material and a portion of the purchase went to Global Green). I also had a chance to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall which I will post a review of soon. In other Hellboy related news, CHUD has posted a new Hellboy poster which is really great...too bad it's, "an exclusive-to-NYCC Hellboy II: The Golden Army poster from the legendary Drew Struzan". In any case, it is awesome looking and makes me even more excited for the July 11th release.

[EDIT]
They have apparently started some sort of viral marketing for this film recently as well (I guess it kicked off last Friday..I don't know much about it, but it can be found over here -
www.hetfet.org

[EDIT 2]
There is also a pretty interesting interview over at ComingSoon.net that was done at Comic-Con New York where Del Toro talks a bit about Hellboy II, Hellboy III, and a little about The Hobbit as well. The interview is here.

Corps Cadavres

I just got this book as a gift. It is the complete history of zombie cinema and I must say, as far as I am into the book (not far yet) it is quite excellent. I'm really happy to have a reference book as well as a history book combined into one for all my zombie movie referencing pleasure. It is available at Amazon.com and would be a worthy purchase for anyone who has a fascination with zombie movies.

A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far, Far Away...

So here we are, another blog about movies. Yay. Don't get too excited just yet. This is going to be a place where I will post my reflections/opinions about movie news that I read, news that I feel like sharing, movie reviews and anything else movie related that I feel like posting (remember, it's my blog, not yours). Eventually I hope to do some podcasting (video) which will also become a part of this page. Also - be sure to check out my other website dedicated mainly to the more artistic side of my practice. It can be found at www.sx0t.com. There is also a link to it at the top of this page. See ya around!
