Worst. News. Ever.

This is terrible news, and if you are a Gossip Girl or The O.C. Fan...too bad...because it is still terrible news for us Marvel fans. Josh Schwartz, creator of those above mentioned shows, has hinted that he is working on a screenplay for an X-Men film which will be a spinoff/prequel that will center on teenagers at The Xavier Institute For Higher Learning. He has a statement and then goes on to insult the new Hulk movie and Brian Singer (who directed the 2 awesome X-Men movies AND Superman Returns). You decide what you think. I think he is an idiot.

"I'm very well aware that I'll be bludgeoned by purists, but I love its mythology, and it comes with a pretty hefty paycheck." The 31-year-old scribbler further confessed that the new film will resolve around a teenager who is attending the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.

Concerning the possible doubt casted by the fans, Schwartz stated, "It's not like I'm adding new characters like Toaster Head, or anything like that. The Hulk looks like it's going to be terrible. And why does he look like he's fighting against the monster from Cloverfield? I mean, with Transformers, it's not like fans were going to come back saying, 'You used the wrong car.' This, however, is a different story. Brett Ratner didn't have a lot of credibility going in to the third X-Men movie, but I think Bryan Singer [who directed the first two installments] got a free pass on Superman Returns because of his work on X-Men."

Let the hate mail commence.

[EDIT] As stated down below in the comments, the original source of the story, BlackBook magazine no longer has their article online which originally could be found here. I got the news from various other movie news websites and not the original source, but like I said it appears to be taken down. Is Schwartz trying to save face or is it just a case of bad reporting that got shut down by Schwartz's people? I'll keep you up to date as it develops.
