New Raimi Spiderman 4 News

You heard it here first, hot on the tails of an interview Raimi did with Empire Magazine for their May issue where he discusses some things about the workings of Spiderman 3 and 4, where he was quoted as saying,

“They really gave me a tremendous amount of control on the first two films, actually. But then there were different opinions on the third film and I didn’t really have creative control, so to speak.”

and,
“The best way for me to move forward on films, I realize…and this was a lesson I had to learn for myself…is that I’ve gotta be the singular voice that makes the creative choices on the film.”

Quickly following that news, we get this update from the man himself Sam Raimi via Twitter,

samraimi - Wondering if I'll direct Spiderman 4.
about 2 hours ago from web

I quickly sent him a reply saying I really wish he would...but at least we know for certain now, he is thinking about whether or not he should...It could be a sad day for the Spiderman franchise in my opinion.

New Star Trek TV Spot

We have a new Star Trek TV spot showing up on the internet. Features a great deal of action, but is relatively short and really just leaves you wanting more. This film is going to be the first time I actually care about Star Trek. I know this already.

Hilarious (fake?) trailer shows up on Funny or Die: Gobstopper

So this hilariously awesome trailer for a horror film showed up on Funny or Die the other day. I am fairly certain it is a joke, because of where it was posted, but we can only hope that at some point, someone really thinks this would be a great film to make. It is a film that is based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and stars the always great Christopher Lloyd as a really messed up Willy Wonka. I absolutely love this trailer. Check it out.

Where The Wild Things Are Super-Update

So I have posted a bunch of info and photos about the upcoming Spike Jonze film Where The Wild Things Are based on the book by Maurice Sendak. A few days ago we were treated to a new poster for the film and a bunch of new photos. For this post, I have simply collected a bunch of the photos floating around - old and new, and the new poster for the film. Consider this a super-update on whatever stuff I have surrounding the film at this point.

I'm a pretty big Spike Jonze fan, and I've been drooling over these photos for quite some time now. I think he managed to really capture the look and feel of the book. I am wondering how he is going to turn such a simple story and a small book into a 90 or so minute film, but if anyone can do it, and proving from these images, he is trying real hard, I think Spike can.

Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell Trailer

As a long time fan of the Evil Dead series and other Sam Raimi endeavors, I am proud to offer up the trailer for Sam Raimi's return to the horror genre. Drag Me To Hell. Drag Me To Hell is the story of a loan officer who is ordered to evict an old woman from her home and finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse, who turns her life into a living hell. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.

It appears that there is much use of practical effects in this film which makes me extra excited. I have never really been a fan of the whole digital CGI stuff when it comes to horror films. I prefer mine real and gritty with as much use of practical makeup as possible. If this turns out to be anything like Evil Dead (which in terms of looks - it's on the right path). Then I have much to be excited for.

Derek 8-Track's Watchmen Review

I’ll start off with a little background on my experience with the Watchmen. I really knew nothing about the Watchmen at all, outside of the fact that it was a comic I would pick up at Barnes & Noble and always reshelf because it was full of heroes I didn’t already know. My buddy Andy said it was a good read but because the heroes were unfamiliar I didn’t want to familiar myself with it. Then I saw the first Preview for the Movie. I was Hyped! It looked like it was going to be the Lord of the Rings of Superhero movies. I still didn’t buy the book. Why? I’m not much of a reader, I like moving pictures much more and I knew if I bought it, it would take me a year to read anyway. December 21, 2009. I turn 25. What do Sxot and his FiancĂ© Constantine get me for the passing into a new year of my life? The Watchmen Graphic Novel. I was Hyped! Now I can actually read this before the movie comes out. But do I have the strength and time to read it? I start reading it and I can’t put the thing down. I haven’t been this hyped about a book since I read Maus. In fact I was more hyped about this than Maus. I finished the book about 3 weeks ago, juuuust in time for today’s midnight showing. Anyway, this is a movie review.

The Rockin’

This movie had the greatest opening credit sequence since Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake! It was a great way to set up the story. It was a montage of much of the supplemental material in between each chapter of the Graphic Novel over Bob Dylan’s The Times They Are A-Changin’. The movie has some Dick Tracy like aspects, when it comes to real historical figures; they were caricatured more than they were likenesses. Look, I’m gonna make this short. The movie was awesome. Everything they took out wasn’t central to the plot. The things that were changed still functioned to serve the same purpose they serve in the Graphic Novel. This is a very cinematic film with fantastic special effects. Rorschach will kill you. The movie is soaked with Dick ‘n’ Balls, Gore, and Blood. Sorry I’m making this review so juvenile, it’s just one of those movies where I am a too hyped to write anything serious about it.

The Not So Rockin’

You tend to miss material from the graphic novel that was taken out. Some of that material would have strengthened the depth of the characters and built up some of the mystery and suspense. Hopefully that will all be in the director’s cut. Then it very well may become the Lord of the Rings of Superheroe movies. Outside of that I can’t think of anything.

Once again I have to apologize for my short and juvenile reaction to the film. Perhaps once I’ve let the film settle a bit I can come back and give a more intellectual read of the movie as a movie with less reference back to the graphic novel.

Saturday Morning Watchmen cartoon!

This is what The Watchmen would look like if it were a fun, happy Saturday morning cartoon instead of a serious, violent epic film! Enjoy! (note: this isn't real, but rather created by some dude just for the hell of it - damn fine job though! Dr. Manhattan turns into a blue car...jokes all over the place)

Here is the page of the guy who created the vid.

Public Enemies Trailer...Michael Mann FOR THE WIN.

Super excited about this new Public Enemies trailer. I love Michael Mann's work for the most part and he definitely has a certain style when it comes to heist films. This is no exception. Couple that with the time period, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale and I think we have ourselves quite the winning film. Looks pretty awesome.

New Terminator Salvation Trailer

Courtesy of Yahoo! we get a new Terminator Salvation trailer. Check it out!

This film is looking to be one monster of a gritty action packed epic. I, for one, am stoked. I'm quite fan of the Terminator series. I think that the story is such a complex one that is told over the course of such a long period of time that it really gets more and more interesting the further we go down the rabbit hole. And it looks like McG may have actually done something right this time.

Vanity Fair's Comedy's New Legends Spread

Vanity Fair magazine has a new spread called Comedy's New Legends which depicts the steady moving community of today's current comedy geniuses. In most photos they are recreating other scenes from films or other characters with a quite hilarious result.

My favorite is the Apatow spoof of an older Vanity Fair cover - Seth really nailed Kiera Knightly's stare in this photo.

Head over to Vanity Fair to check out the rest of the hilarious images!

Apatow producing Ghostbusters III ?!

Word on the interweb (to confirm early rumors and a personal belief held by myself), Judd Apatow has signed on to produce the upcoming film, Ghostbusters III. According to CinemaBlend.com,

Apatow's Production company has been listed directly next to the title Ghostbusters III in this week's Productions Weekly.

While it doesn't state in any form that he is directing the film - I think it surely could be a possibility - especially if the Apatow Gang is going to be brought into the film as a sort of "new Ghostbusters team" as we have heard before.

While this is something that could have been assumed long ago, it is nice to see some more solid facts on the matter. I think this could be a really refreshing and quite exciting way to take the Ghostbusters saga. As long as the old Ghostbusters aren't kicked to the curb immediately for the Apatow crew, I'm down.
