Weekly Movie List 5/25 - 5/31

One of the things that I thought would be kind of fun to do here at Rewind and Adjust is to post a Weekly List of movies that I have watched throughout the course of the week. I will start keeping track every Sunday and go until the following Saturday and the new list will begin again on Sunday. This first list is a little slow, (hopefully I will start posting them on the end of the day Saturday, or on Sunday. Maybe Derek 8-Track will begin to follow suit. I think it will be fun just to give whoever is reading this a bit of insight as to how many and which movies I am watching over the course of the week. Without further ado, here is the first list 5/25 - 5/31

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls
Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny
Saving Silverman (commentary track)
Saving Silverman
King Arthur Documentary
Apocalypto (commentary track)
Apocalypto
Lady Vengeance
Stardust
The Brothers Solomon

(Every movie except the new Indy and Lady Vengeance are movies I had previously seen)

10 movies in one week. Not to shabby.

[ADD]

Derek 8-Track here,
good idea!
Here is my 5/25 - 5/31 list. (Keep in mind I am in a film history class right now and these aren't movies that one would generally find on my moving watching list. That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them, It's just that many of these were chosen by my instructor.)

Driving Miss Daisy
The Big Chill
The French Connection
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Rope
The Player
Unforgiven (Ah yes, the genre section)
The Holiday
Evan Almighty
Music and Lyrics

Leo as Real Bond!

I don't quite know how this one slipped past my radar, but Leonardo DiCaprio has recently had his eyes on a script that his production company, Appian Way, had purchased. The story follows Fleming, who fought as a Commander of Naval Intelligence in World War II while creating James Bond and the many characters from his books. Apparently most of the characters in Bond are actually based on areal people Fleming encountered. Writer Damian Stevenson describes the film as “Shakespeare in Love or Finding Neverland with some real-life Bond-like espionage and female flattery thrown in.

While it isn't certain that he would play the role, or that the film will ever get made, the fact that his production company purchased the script hints at the idea that they may be developing it with him in mind for the lead role (or maybe he will direct? that would be awesome).

Frank Miller Makes a Promise

Recently Frank Miller, on his blog, assured everyone that The Spirit was not Sin City, he said,

"It only resembles Sin City in that I am its director, and, well, yes, I have my ways and my proclivities .... No, Sin City, that one's my own baby, folks, and it looks the way it does for its own reasons. The Spirit is, and will always be, Eisner's Spirit .... To drive the point home, The Spirit , despite any accidental impression left by that kickass teaser-trailer, is a full-color movie. Sin City - and I hope to make of it a movie trilogy all its own, come Hell and high water - is, visually, a playhouse for black and white."

I was kinda disappointed with the first trailer for The Spirit, as I also thought it just looked like another Sin City, but if Frank Miller says so, I'll believe him. For now.

New Where the Wild Things Are news

On June 5th, reshoots are scheduled to begin in Los Angeles on Where the Wild Things Are, director Spike Jonze’s borderline infamous adaptation of the classic, visceral and delightfully weird children’s book by Maurice Sendak. Jonze’s mission? According to Bloody Disgusting, Warner Brothers has scheduled reshoots for Jonze's film, which will take place in Los Angeles from June 5-30. They say: "It is unclear how much is being reshot, but there are new casting calls out for various stand-in roles."

There are reports of test screenings bringing children to tears and them having to leave the screening. I think it is likely that these reshoots are so that they can eliminate some of the "scarier" stuff. This totally blows for any adult wishing for a good film based on a childhood favorite book.

This film has had so much trouble so far in getting it's feet off the ground. I hope it works out.

MTV Movie Awards Last Night

The MTV Movie Awards were last night and for the most part sucked big ones. Mike Meyers hosted and the best thing that happened from him was the introduction of two new "Mike Meyers characters (Bucky Einstein the animal trainer ROCKED). He and Dana Carvey also brought back Wayne's World which was pretty sweet. Seth Rogen and James Franco lit up a "fake movie joint" on stage (or what they said was a fake movie joint made with fake movie weed). Here is a list of some of the more important awards issued over the course of the night

Best Movie: Transformers
Best Male Performance: Will Smith in I Am Legend
Breakthrough Performance: Zac Efron in Hairspray
Best Female Performance: Ellen Page in Juno
Best Comedic Performance: Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
Best Fight: Sean Faris and Cam Gigandet in Never Back Down
Best Villain: Johnny Depp in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Best Kiss: Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman in Step Up 2 The Streets
Best Summer Movie So Far: Iron Man
Tom Cruise presented Adam Sandler with the MTV Generation Award

Michael Bay wins.

Fire on Universal Backlots!

Word out in L.A. Land is that around 4:45 A.M this morning a huge fire started on the backlots at Universal Studios doing what is reported to be "millions in damage". Among the buildings damaged, the most valuable may be the film vault, which is believed to have been destroyed. The Associated Press (via the New York Times) reports that the facades included New York street scenes and the street set for 1973's The Sting. The 2008 MTV Movie Awards are scheduled to be broadcast live from the park this afternoon. As of 10:00 a.m. Pacific time, the fire was still burning. Among one of the most awesome things being damaged is the famous clocktower from Back to the Future. It must be that the Back to the Future Gods are angry after recently hearing that a Back to the Future IV will NOT happen.

According to AP,

A large fire tore through a back lot at Universal Studios early Sunday, destroying a set from ”Back to the Future,” the King Kong exhibit and thousands of videos and reels in a vault. The blaze broke out on a sound stage at the theme park in a set featuring New York brownstones facades around 4:30 a.m. at the 400-acre property, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Michael Freeman said. The fire was contained to the lot but still burning several hours later.

Roughly 40,000 to 50,000 videos and reels were in the video vault, but there are duplicates stored in a different location, said Ron Meyer, NBC Universal president and chief operating officer. Firefighters managed to recover hundreds of those titles from the vault.
”Nothing is lost forever,” Meyer said.

Video and images can be seen over on KNBC.
